Quad Occupancy
$39.95
Although there are many approaches to occupancy detection, one that tends to be the most accurate, consistent and reliable, is that of using current sensing within a given block in order to indicate that a train or car is occupying the block. Unlike optical solutions, current sensing will not provide erroneous status conditions due to too much or too little or intermittent light. The current sense solution does require however that any train car be fitted with a resistor across a wheel to its axel in order for our board to sense the small amount of current flowing across the rails through the resistor and axel. We recommend the use of 10k resistors.
Description
This compact occupancy detector board provides 4 optically isolated inputs for use on your layout. Each circuit can handle up to 4A of current and the board isolates each of those circuits from all other electronics on the board, making this a safe way to identify train location in a block. Furthermore, the design automatically works to eliminate any jitter or bouncing of a signal due to dirt on wheels or track and requires no adjustments whatsoever.
The Quad Occupancy supports metal wheelsets that have been fitted with resistors and is a reliable way to detect the presence of a train in the specified block. Typical values for resistors is 10K (10,000 Ohms) although other values can be supported.
